Mk 7 Celica (Celica 2000 GTS) |
|
|
Seven generations have made Celica a sports car with
real pedigree. Evolving from the 1971 Mk I into the sleek Mk VII shown above, every generation of Celica
has turned heads and each model has spawned many variations from the
mildly modified Targa versions, to the amazing Celica Supra supercar. |
|
|
|
The Mk7 version has numerous changes from the
curvy Mk VI, the main features of the latest car being:- |
|
|
|
It is smaller overall and lighter than the vehicle it
supersedes, yet it has considerably more power.

|
Despite the reduced overall size, the interior space
and luggage capacity are increased. |
|
|
| This is the first naturally aspirated
Toyota production engine to produce more than100hp/litre. This
limit is normally only broken by motorbike engines, but thanks to Yamaha
design input Toyota are now a member of the over 100 club. |
| |
| Safety has been built into the Celica from
the start. Great road holding is taken for granted, as well as ABS
and electronic brake force distribution to prevent
accidents. The body is strong, and lots of airbags are
provided to keep the occupants as safe as possible in the worst of
circumstances. |
| |
| The new interior features a
cross-over style cockpit, with motorcycle-style instruments, a leather
three-spoke steering wheel and, on the 190, drilled metal pedals and
leather front seats. |
| |
| Despite the amazing power of the VVT-i and
the VVTL-i, both models deliver very good fuel economy and cause low
emissions for such high performance engines. |
| |
| The new Celica shape is designed to give
very low aerodynamic resistance, and to provide a positive down force to
optimise the new car's road holding capabilities. |
