2003 Celicas and MR2s
Revisions
to both the Celica and the MR2 have been announced. Both models
get minor styling changes including new front spoilers and other bodykit
changes. Interiors have also been updated, and suspensions have
been tweaked. The MR2 gets a new six speed box, but there's no
news of the much rumoured MR2 190. For now only the Celica,
and it's hot hatch brother, the Corolla T-Sport get the awesome VVTL-i
Engine.
Toyota 2003 MR2
The new MR2 Roadster features ABS as standard, and has
great new alloy wheels. Larger rear alloy wheels now are used to
give the car a more aggressive stance and better handling - 16"
alloys on the rear and 15" on the front.

Toyota's UK price reductions mean that the price of a
new MR2 with a 6 speed manual gearbox is 16,995 on the road, and a new
MR2 with a Sequential Manual Transmission (SMT) is 18,495.

Toyota 2003 Celica T-Sport
In reality, however
the new T-Sport isn't exactly the same as the old one. Lots of
goodies like the rear spoiler, four leather seats (instead of 2 leather
and 2 plastic in the 190) and the 17" alloys have been
retained. But the body kit is lacking the side skirts and lower
front spoiler of the old T-Sport. And, we're pleased to say,
those eyelids have gone from the T-Sport too! So maybe it's the
best of both worlds - especially for anyone who wanted the T Sport but
also wanted a sunroof - it's now an option.
Toyota 2003 Celica
We checked with a local dealer on the cost of
upgrading our 18mth old 190 to a new T-Sport and were horrified to find
them quoting a trade in figure 8,000 less than the purchase
price. Ouch we thought! After a few days however, the figure
changed to a much more reasonable 6,000 to trade - now we're tempted. Other
minor changes to the lights are nice - Got that Lexus IS200 / Altezza
look, without looking as forced as some aftermarket kits. This
picture also offers a glimpse of the new optional spoiler for the 140
Celica.
140 Celica with Spoiler
Celicas have traditionally
had great resale values, and we can't knock Toyota for reducing the cost
of new cars. But good residual values - about 50% of purchase
prices after three years - were part of what made the Celica such a good
buy.
On the other hand, if you're about to buy your first
Celica, then there's never been a better time. Check out
this Car
Loan Calculator which shows you just how little it would
cost per month to own Toyota's great Sports Coupe. On the road
prices for a Celica T-Sport with sunroof are now 21,510 and monthly
payments will be a lot less than you might think! For further details, check out
